Some of the most remarkable treasures of this fantastic museum are its huge mosaics from Antioch (the lost ancient city) and its meticulously rebuilt 12th century Chapter House of the Benedictine Priory of Saint John at Le Bas-Nueil.Īlso, I was lucky to see two very interesting exhibitions: “The Art of Kimono” and “What the Nazis Stole from Richard Neumann”. The museum owns phenomenal El Greco’s “Mary Magdalene”, Claude Monet’s “Waterloo Bridge” and yet another version of his “Lilies”, this time in pale pink, stunning “Golfe Juan” by Paul Signac, Gauguin’s “Brooding Woman”. So today I ventured to the Worcester Museum of Fine Arts (40 minutes drive from my house) and enjoyed its fantastic collection of paintings, antiquities and decorative art.
It is funny how I travel all over the world and miss out on spectacular treasures in my own neck of the woods. After 18 months of virtual museum visits I have finally made a real trip to the museum where I spent four hours.
